How in the heck did you get the Dell L866r to boot using a cd. The BIOS screen shows that it first boots to a floppy. When I change BIOS to Atapi CD rom and load my linux cd into the cd drive and reboot the cd drive whirrs for about 5 minutes then boots windows ME.

It’s been a while and I don’t have the machine on hand to check, but I think if you hit F10 or F11 repeatedly after seeing the Dell Logo during system boot it will take you to the boot device selection screen and you can simply select CD-rom. If that doesn’t work then you can change your boot order in the BIOS.
From your description of the CD whirring and refusing to load, It really sounds like your CD might be scratched or not burned properly – or maybe even the linux ISO did not download properly..? Try the CD in another machine to verify that it works – if not try burning another copy. Perhaps if you’re trying the zenwalk liveCD your system doesn’t have enough RAM? Could try the zenwalk standard or core edition.

If you have a chance, let me know it goes. Good luck!
